NICE New Italian Cinema Events

Every year, the international selection committee of N.I.C.E. selects seven/eight titles (first or second work) among the tens of movies produced in Italy throughout the year. Those films, together with a series of special events and retrospectives dedicated to masterpieces of Italian film history, are screened in movie theaters, with their directors and actors in person.

In presenting the first or second work by new directors, the Festival has become a litmus test of the constant renewal of Italy’s film production.

N.I.C.E. represents a powerful instrument to make the world aware not only of new movies being released but also of the new challenges the Italian society is facing today, documenting its continuous evolution. At the same time, the festival introduces new movie directors, that were brought up within N.I.C.E., and that over time have become famous. Some examples: Matteo Garrone, Paolo Sorrentino, and Giuseppe Tornatore, whose work represents precious documentations of an ongoing artistic evolution by masters of Italian cinema. In the US, N.I.C.E. is present in New York (the first edition took place in 1991), San Francisco and Washington.

N.I.C.E serves as a crucial venue for the showcase and the circulation of the best up-and-coming made in Italy film projects to the international cinema‘s markets.
