NIDRA

Nidra, a 60-minute performance for electric guitar and video, is a multi-sensory meditation on the dichotomies of internal and external, the subconscious and conscious, dreams and reality.

Starting as space intended to present brand new music for electric guitar, the show features now masterpieces such as Electric Counterpoint by Steve Reich, Vampyr! by Tristan Murail, Trash TV Trance by Fausto Romitelli, Another Possibility by Christian Wolff and an original transcription of Dream by John Cage.

The script of the show was written by guitarist Giacomo Baldelli and developed by OOOPStudio – Alessandro Grisendi and Marco Noviello – into a collection of short movies directly inspired by the music performed.

Nidra won the 2015 Queens New Music Festival Call for New Proposals and was premiered at The Secret Theater in New York City, May 2015. The show was noted by The New York Times as “ a new musical tour de force for electric guitar featuring video”.

Giacomo Baldelli is critically considered as “one of the most complete performers of the new generation”. He is focused on exploring works of the 20th century, but also on developing a new 21st century repertoire for guitar. Most recently, he has been interested in expanding the contemporary repertoire for electric guitar.

OOOPStudio – Alessandro Grisendi and Marco Noviello- started its artistic activity in Reggio Emilia – Italy – in 2010. As video artists, the duo’s interests lie not in the documentation of reality, but in exploring the sensory and artistic possibilities inherent to digital technology.
