Italian harpsichordist Davide Pozzi (grace and fluency abounding – Early Music Review) performs J.S. Bach, The Goldberg Variations in a special performance at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura. The concert, co-produced by Salon/Sanctuary Concerts and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, celebrates the release of Mr. Pozzi’s most recent CD of The Goldberg Variations on the Pan Classics Label.
Considered one of the most interesting Italian harpsichordists of his generation, Davide Pozzi has performed with some of the most prestigious ensembles and presenters throughout Europe, Mexico, Israel, the USA and Japan. His appearances as a guest soloist and chamber musician include such venues as Teatro alla Scala Milano, Teatro Regio Parma, Teatro Real of Madrid, Salle Gaveau, Salle Pleyel e Cité de la Musique Paris, Berlin and Vienna’s Konzerhaus, Amsterdam’s Concertgebow, Tonhalle Zurich, Società del Quartetto Milano, Tage Alte Musik Regensburg, Museum of the Instruments Berlin, Auditorium of Milano etc.
Recordings include more than 45 CDs and many broadcasts for RAI TV, RAI Radio 3, Decca, Sony, Erato, Stradivarius, Naive, Glossa, Chandos, Amadeus, Bongiovanni, Tactus, Bottega Discantica, Arts and, live, for various radio and television broadcasting stations all over the world. The last of his solo CDs for Pan Classic is dedicated to J.S.Bach’s Goldberg variations: “Pozzi, who has grace and fluency abounding. Even when he is playing in a slow tempo, the momentum derived from essentials dance rhythms behind so many of variations tell you where the whole movement is headed. I like it;.” (Early Music Review)
In 2017 he was invited to direct the trilogy of Monteverdi’s operas for the Radio Festival of Schwetzingen in Germany with “La Venexiana”. His performances as soloist include the Berlin Philharmonic, Essen Philharmonic, Kurhaus Baden Baden, Nikolaisaal and Schlosstheater Potsdam, Teatro Regio Parma, The Auditorium di Milano, the Palazzo della cultura Messina, etc.
He has collaborated with such ensembles as Il Giardino Armonico, The Mahler Chamber Orchestra Il Pomodoro, La Venexiana, L’Aura Soave Cremona, Kammerorchester Basel, Kammerorchester Zürich, I Barocchisti, KammeraKademie Potsdam, the symphonic and baroque Orchestra “La Verdi” of Milano, La magnifica comunità and others.
Maestro Pozzi holds a diploma in harpsichord, fortepiano and clavichord, and organ and organ composition, awarded with full marks, from the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan. completed his studies in early music at the Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano and at the Schola Cantorum in Basel.
After having won prizes in several organ and harpsichord national contests, he was awarded second prize as harpsichordist of the “Estro Cromatico” ensemble at the international contest “Bonporti” in Rovereto and the Bärenreiter prize at the “Telemann Wettbewerb” in Magbeburg. The chairman of both contests was Gustav Leonhardt.
He is conductor of the Mailänder Kantorei, vocal and instrumental ensemble of the main Protestant Christian Chruch in Milan. He teaches at Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Como.
