International Women’s Day with Erica Jong

An evening talk with internationally acclaimed author Erica Jong, on her experience as a woman writer but also on her special relationship to Italy and Italian culture. Jong will be in conversation with journalist Maria Teresa Cometto.

Born and raised in New York, where she graduated in English literature at Columbia University, Erica Jong, born Mann, achieved international success in 1973 with her first novel Fear of flying, centered on the topics of feminism in the sixties, translated into more than forty languages, with over 37 million copies sold. The later works retain the personal tone of the narration, from How to save your own life, 1977 and Parachutes and kisses, 1984 to Seducing the Demon: Writing for My Life, 2006 the story of her first experiences in the literary, intellectual, and sentimental worlds, to the most recent Fear of Dying (2015), courageous portrait of a mature woman, full of humor and fiercely honest.

Jong has always had a passion for Italy, where she stayed often.

Erica Jong has received numerous international awards including the Bess Hokin prize for poetry, the Sigmund Freud Prize for literature, the United Nations Award for Excellence in Literature and the Prize Fernanda Pivano.
