The New Literature from Europe Festival

The New Literature from Europe Festival - Globalization, migration and modern challenges. NLE is New York City’s top European literary festival. Now in its 14th installment, the festival brings together leading and emerging voices from 14 different countries with some of today’s foremost authors, editors and translators to celebrate cultural diversity and heritage, while addressing the current challenges of globalization and migration. An opportunity to hear important new voices in translation, discover new ones not yet known on this side of the Atlantic, and engage in a vital cross-cultural exchange for better understanding and kinship among cultures.

Author Chiara Valerio represents Italy at this 2018 edition.

Chiara Valerio (b. 1978) received a doctorate in Applied Mathematics and is active as a writer, journalist, essayist and translator. She is an editor at Nuovi Argomenti, the Italian fiction editor at publishing house Marsilio, a curator of cultural programs for public radio and a regular contributor for various newspapers and magazines. Her writing draws on the rich history of scientific thought to address the IT revolution and globalization. She has written novels and short stories, including Almanacco del giorno prima (2014) and Storia umana della matematica (2016), and is the Italian translator of Virginia Woolf’s Flush (2012) and Freshwater (2013).


All events will be held in English at Instituto Cervantes (211 E. 49th St., btw. 2nd & 3rd Ave, NY), and are free and open to the public. RSVP required.
