Marina Valensise & Robert Carsen – video interview

On the occasion of the opening of the 57th Season of classical performances at the Greek Theater of Syracuse (from May 17 to July 9, 2022), a video interview by Fabio Finotti to Marina Valensise (Managing Director of INDA – National Institute of Ancient Drama of Syracuse), in conversation with director Robert Carsen.

The video interview opens with a brief presentation by Fabio Finotti on the importance of the Greek presence in Italy, of which the Syracuse theater is one of the best examples, and on the crucial role played by the seventeenth-century Italian melodrama in the rebirth of theater at European level.
Marina Valensise then presents the activities of INDA, an Institute that aims to revive the tradition of Greek theater as a “whole” (fusion of music, poetry, song, painting, architecture) and to reinvigorate its moral and civic strength; in particular, it presents the theatrical season scheduled at the Syracuse theater, which includes a representation of Sophocles’s Oedipus Rex directed by Robert Carsen.
