"Senti chi parla- Look who's talking!" Book presentation - Settimana della lingua italiana nel Mondo



For the Settimana della Lingua italiana nel mondo centered on the relationship between language and younger generations, the Institute presents: Look Who’s Talking! / Senti chi Parla! by Valentina Popa, a bilingual English/Italian poem book featuring imaginary monologues by the infant, Baby Seby, written in rhymes.

Valentina Popa is currently working in the Executive Office of the Secretary- General of the United Nations in New York. Her educational background includes a BA in Romanian and French Languages from the State University of Moldova; MA in International Relations from the Academy of Public Administration; MA in International Political Economy and Development from Fordham University in New York; Post-graduate studies in Emerging Markets and Country Risk Analysis, and training in Designing and Supporting Mediation Processes of international conflicts from Folke Bernadotte Academy of Sweden.

Besides her native language, Romanian, she is fluent in English, French, Russian, and Italian.

A Laureate of numerous national popular music contests, Valentina has subsequently appeared on various stages in Moldova and abroad, in exclusively benefit concerts, besides her husband, tenor Luciano Lamonarca. She currently resides in New York, with her husband and son, Sebastian, her inspiration for this book.

22nd Week of the Italian Language in the World: “L’italiano e i giovani. Come scusa? Non ti followo” /

“Italian and Youth. Excuse me? I don’t follow you"

This event is part of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, an initiative that has been held since 2001. Organized by the diplomatic-consular network and the Italian Cultural Institutes together with MIC, MUR and the main partners of language promotion in Italy (Accademia della Crusca, Dante Alighieri Society) and the Government of the Helvetic Confederation, the Week has become over time one of the most important initiatives dedicated to the celebration of the Italian language internationally. Since its establishment, the initiative has been awarded each year High Patronage by the Presidency of the Republic.

Each Week is dedicated to a different theme, which serves as a common thread for a rich program of conferences, exhibitions and meetings. The theme of the 2022 edition, which takes place Oct. 17-23, is “L’italiano e i giovani. Come scusa? Non ti followo” / “Italian and Youth. Excuse me? I don’t follow you"
