The Machine Stops – Tommaso Gambini Quintet

Tommaso Gambini presents his project “The Machine Stops” performing with his ensemble a suite of original compositions based on the 1909 novel of the same name by Edward Forster. More then one hundred years ago, the writer envisioned a dystopian future in which humans rely on a universal machine to provide for their needs and to interact with each other, effectively predicting the rise of the Internet and Social Networks.

“The Machine Stops” won the ORAX grant for under 30 artists from the “Compagnia di San Paolo” and was premiered at the Torino Jazz Festival last May, to critical acclaim.

Since moving to New York in 2015, Gambini has distinguished himself as one of the leading voices of his generation. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he has performed internationally both as a sideman and as leader of his group with such musicians as drummer Antonio Sanchez, saxophonists George Garzone, Miguel Zenon and Ben Van Gelder and Italian prodigy Francesco Cafiso.
