The Brera Academy has inspired the community-led art exhibition of the town of Peccioli, Tuscany, spearheaded by Mayor Renzo Macelloni. Peccioli has embraced and championed a participatory model of art, transforming the town into a remarkable hub for contemporary art. This vision has earned Peccioli the title of “Small Capital of Contemporary Art” (Artribune) and recognition as the Best Italian Village in 2024 (BBC and Borgo dei Borghi award).

The Academies of Fine Arts represent an Italian tradition of great importance. They are institutions of high cultural education and inexhaustible creativity. They represent the Italy of tradition and memory, and at the same time of future and innovation. The Academies speak ever evolving languages, explore the limits between real and virtual, and are deeply embedded in the local territory while also extending on an international level. The Italian Cultural Institute in New York aims to highlight the primary role of the Academies, their teachers and students, and promote their internationalization with this series called “Academies”.
