The artistic legacy of Gino De Dominicis (1947 – 1998) – Screening

Luxembourg + Co and the Italian Cultural Institute host a screening event exploring the artistic legacy of De Dominicis’ work through several of his video pieces and recorded interviews. The screening will be accompanied by the commentary of Mr. Francesco Bonami, former curator of the Venice Biennale, and Dr. Yuval Etgar, Director of Research and Exhibitions at Luxembourg + Co.

The event will take place on the occasion of Luxembourg + Co.’s display of paintings and sculptures by De Dominicis at the ADAA Art Show in the nearby Armory building.

Registration required. Limited capacity. Guests will be asked to show proof of vaccination upon entry.

The artistic legacy of Gino De Dominicis (1947 – 1998) is soaked in mystery. An artist who made no distinction between his personal life and his artistic practice: De Dominicis’ paintings, sculptures, installations, performances, and filmic work, remain unanimously implicated in rumours and stories about their creator and his actions. As such, De Dominicis influenced some of the most important artists of our time who sought to explore their own presence (or its absence) as an artistic medium, most notably Marina Abramovic. Perhaps above all, however, De Dominicis’ practice is characterised by its interest in the principle of alchemy and metamorphosis; impossible transformations that express immortality and enable things to exist even after death is pronounced.
