For the Music of the Americas Concert Series – featuring music and musicians from the Western Hemisphere, including Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada – the Americas Society, in collaboration with ICI, presents the complete violin and piano sonatas by Heitor Villa-Lobos, featuring Italian violinist Emmanuele Baldini and Brazilian pianist Pablo Rossi. There will also be a pre-concert talk at 7pm with Villa-Lobos biographer, Rodrigo Alzuguir.
Emmanuele Baldini: Violin
Born in Trieste, Italy, Baldini currently resides in Brazil where he has been the concertmaster of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (OSESP) since 2005. He was also the concertmaster of the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, and the Orchestra del Teatro “Giuseppe Verdi” di Trieste. Recent conducting highlights include concerts at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and Teatro del Sodre in Montevideo.
Pablo Rossi: Piano
Brazilian pianist Pablo Rossi won the first Nelson Freire National Competition for New Brazilian talents in 2003. He has won more than ten competitions and has given more than eighty recitals as a member of the Keyboard Charitable Trust. He has performed as a soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of the Kremlin, the Chamber Orchestra of Auvergne, the Symphony Orchestra of Kirov and the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, among others. Recently, Pablo played at Carnegie Hall, St. Maria Perivale in London and Sala Cecilia Meireles in Rio de Janeiro.
Rodrigo Alzuguir
Rodrigo Alzuguir is a Brazilian musician, writer, researcher and published author. In 2014, his biography about the composer Wilson Baptista, one of the samba pioneers, was awarded the Jabuti Prize, the most prestigious prize in Brazilian literature. He is currently working on a biography about Heitor Villa-Lobos that will be published in 2020.
