In Scena! Playwright Award 2025 Ceremony

INSCENA! 2025

In Scena! Playwright Award 2025 Ceremony

Le Regole dei terzi by Marco de Simone

Translated by Caterina Nonis

The ceremony of the In Scena! Playwright Award  is held as every year at the Italian Cultural Institute in NY and includes a reading of the English translation of the play, directed by a female director.

The play is inspired by a real event recounted in the autobiography of Robert Capa. On the night between July 9 and 10, 1943, the renowned war photojournalist was welcomed into a farmer’s home, along with some American soldiers sent to Sicily just before the Allied landing. Disregarding strict realism and overcoming obvious language barriers, the author imagines a dialogue between Capa and the farmer, highlighting the characters as symbols of two worlds meeting on the edge of the abyss opened by war. Two worlds far apart, marked by different experiences, intentions, and perspectives—yet united by a shared reckoning with both war and life.

Marco de Simone – Playwright, actor and director with a degree in classical guitar from the Conservatory and one in philosophy. Among the others, Marco took part in the productions: “Memento Domine” (by D. Liguori) at the Teatro S. Ferdinando di Napoli (2016); “La Governante” by V. Brancati, directed by M. Andria, winner of the 70th National Festival of Dramatic Art of Pesaro and of the 49th National Festival of Macerata (2017). He is the author (theatrical adaptation and original music) of the show “A feather is made to fly”, inspired by “La Piuma” by Giorgio Faletti. Winner of the third Folle d’Oro prize of Fossano (CN) and of the Quasimodo Award 2019, theater section, with the play “Never happened”.
