MARISTELLA LORCH-BEYOND GIBRALTAR

Book presentation

Introduced by Ingrid Rossellini
Maristella De Panizza Lorch, Professor Emerita of Italian and Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Barnard College at Columbia University, has taught courses on Dante, Petrarca, Renaissance Humanism, and related topics for over fifty years. Since retiring Dr. Lorch has devoted herself to writing a semi-fictionalized memoir of her roots in the Austro-Italian Alps, her experience of the resistance in Fascist controlled Italy, her immigration to the United States as a war bride, and her subsequent development as an academic humanist, an entrepreneur, and a wife and a mother of three daughters.
Her memoirs form a trilogy, of which Beyond Gibraltar is the second volume. The first book, Mamma in her Village, was published in 2005 by Ryder and Finn. Dr. Lorch is currently working on the third volume The Other Shore.
