“Diario Proibito” (A Forbidden Diary) was written in 1958. Mario Fratti was 15 year old when nine of his partisan friends were murdered by the fascist regime, in his home town of L’AQUILA.Shocked, he felt the need to write about his experiences during the war. He, also, honored their memory in the play ” Nine Martyrs ” that is now part of the novel.
“Diario Proibito ” is a homage to political commitment.

MARIO FRATTI was born in L’Aquila July 5 1927. He wrote his first and only novel when
he was 20. “Diario Proibito” was published in 2013 (by Graus, Naples).
Fratti theatrical career began in 1957, and he moved to New York City in 1963.
Some of his 91 plays have been translated and performed in 19 languages (e.g. Cage, Victim,Refrigerators,
Academy, Bridge, Passionate Women, Trio, Quartet, Che Guevara etc. )
and have granted him many Awards. Among them, seven Tony Awards for the smah hit broadway musical “Nine”. He is also a drama critic.
