Among the events of 2013, the Year of Italian Culture in the United States, this conference is aimed at exploring the history, the life and the current archaeological discoveries regarding Gaius Vibius Tribonianus Gallus and his family. Thanks to a recent multidisciplinary research, historical traces and new evidence have been found, and the hypothesis of the presence of the emperor’s tomb in St. Peter‘s Basilica in Perugia, Italy, where the medieval chapel of the Vibius’ family had already been discovered, has been strengthened. Furthermore, it seems that also the mausoleum of the mperor could be located under the tower bell of the same Basilica. After the presentation of the results of the first historical-archeological research about the emperor, the ambience of the Italian Basilica will be symbolically re-created through the performance of the Basilica polyphonic chorus, led by Padre Martino Siciliani and directed by Maestro Pier Francesco Bacchetti. This event is within the framework of the MET seminar: Science and Innovation for the Study and Conservation of Works of Art” from October 7 to 11 2013.Presentation by Prof. Franco Cotana (Universita’ degli Studi di Perugia), Prof. Antonio Sgamellotti (CNR), Dr. Marco Leona (MET).
