Debora Petrina

Debora Petrina, who will appear in person in the coming Fall at the Italian Cultural Institute, like many Italian artists and musicians, has recorded a video with some of her compositions to express her solidarity and support in this trying times.

Composer, singer, pianist, and instrumentalist, Petrina represents an unicum in the Italian panorama, combining a visionary style, her oblique and sensual songwriting, while experimenting with pop-rock, electronics, avant-garde and Jazz music.

Appreciated by David Byrne, who has often published her songs in his favorites radio playlists, she has recorded four CDs as a songwriter, the most recent  ”Be Blind”  (AlaBianca/Warner). She has rearranged a work by John Cage, and the score is published worldwide by Edition Peters (NY) – the official editor of John Cage – with both names Cage/Petrina. She has, also, recorded an album with the famous Italian Jazz artist Paolo Fresu, and other Italian jazz musicians,  and she has recently performed, with Nicholas Isherwood, as singer and main character in a contemporary opera produced by Teatro La Fenice in Venice.

Petrina has recorded in the United States and in Europe unpublished works by Morton Feldman (OgreOgress) and Sylvano Bussotti (Stradivarius). She has collaborated with John Parish, Elliott Sharp, Jherek Bischoff, Mike Sarin, Nicholas Isherwood, Paolo Fresu, Mario Brunello, Sylvano Bussotti, performing in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Washington DC, Istanbul, Addis Abeba, London, Berlin, Koln, Madrid, Strasbourg, Tokio and Osaka.
