Book presentation and lecture
Event part of the World Week of Italian Language, held under the high patronage of the President of the Italian Republic”.
On the occasion of the publication of Zanichelli’s Dizionario delle Collocazioni: Le combinazioni delle parole in Italiano, curated by Paola Tiberii.
In linguistics collocation is used to mean a combination of lexical items that regularly occur together and sound natural in speech and writing. The way words combine in a language is not determined by rules of syntax or grammar but instead is established through repeated context-dependent use within the language community. Simple example: in Italian we say caffè forte and computer potente, but it would not be natural to say caffè potente or computer forte.
Paola Tiberii received her degree from DAMS University of Bologna, Faculty of Literature and Filosophy. Along with her musical and piano studies, she developed a passion for linguistic, and for lexicography, in particular. The Dizionario delle Collocazioni is the culmination of a ten year research, that unifies both the theoretical approach and the practical use.
