Event IN ITALIAN
Exactly 500 years ago the ship Dauphine, commanded by Giovanni da Verrazzano, entered the bay where the metropolis of New York arose a few centuries later. The Florentine navigator was in the service of the French crown and was looking for a passage to the Indies, but found himself exploring the entire coast of what is now the United States. Fabio Romanini will tell the story of the expedition and present the character of Giovanni da Verrazzano, a great navigation expert but also a cultured man, humanist, knowledgeable on Latin and cosmography.
Fabio Romanini is Associate Professor of Italian Linguistics at the University of Ferrara.
