ITALY WALK Series
DYKER HEIGHTS HOLIDAY LIGHTS TOUR
Discover the Christmas magic born in the heart of Brooklyn
… and inspired by the Italian spirit!
Experience one of New York’s most spectacular holiday moments: the Dyker Heights Holiday Lights Tour, exploring the city’s most famous decorated homes, where every street sparkles like a living nativity scene.
It all began in the 1980s, thanks to Lucy Spata, daughter of Italian immigrants, who decided to decorate her home to honor her Christmas-loving mother. From that first gesture, her passion ignited an entire neighborhood, turning it into a symbol of celebration, creativity, and Italian American pride.

This tour is the first in the new “ITALY WALK” series: guided walks through New York’s neighborhoods with Maria Teresa Cometto and Glauco Maggi, two journalists who have lived in the Big Apple since 2000, exploring it block by block, step by step.
Maria Teresa Cometto and Glauco Maggi are Italian journalists and authors, married and living in New York since 2000, US citizens since 2018. They co-authored “Qui non è Nuova York” (Neri Pozza)—coming soon in English as “(RE)COVERING AMERICA” (Bordighera Press, CUNY)—the story of their two coast-to-coast road trips across the USA as “special correspondents” for the Italian Cultural Institute of New York.
