On June 26, 1914, Neapolitan entrepreneur Eugenio Marinella opened a 20-square-meter shop in Piazza della Vittoria, in the Chiaia district, where he began to create tailor-made products (especially shirts and ties) with hand-printed silk from England. The original clientele was mainly composed of riders of the local aristocracy, thanks to the proximity of the Villa Comunale and the equestrian path. Over the years, the clientele expanded exponentially, to include prominent figures of the nobility and the international jet set.
Maurizio Marinella, his grandson, holds today the position of sole director of the Maison and is the President of the Fashion Sector of the Unione Industriali Napol. In October 2021, Forbes magazine included him in the list of the 100 successful top managers at a national level.
His commitment, respect for tradition and attention to quality and details have been appreciated and recognized over time. In 2017, four of his ties were exhibited at the MoMA in New York on the occasion of the international event “Items: Is Fashion Modern?”, which brought together 111 iconic objects that had become epitomes of style.
Maurizio Marinella. Born in Naples 67 years ago, where he graduated in Economics and Commerce with a thesis in Industrial and Commercial Technique entitled “The Fashion System”. In 1983, he “officially” began his activity in the family business, E. Marinella, founded in 1914 by his grandfather Don Eugenio Marinella, of which he is now the Sole Director.
Under his guidance, holding firm to the traditional values passed down to him by his grandfather Don Eugenio and his father Luigi, the Maison has faced the new millennium, with an international scope. He opened the first showroom in Milan in 2002, followed by a second store in 2014. Then, two stores in Tokyo in 2007 and 2015 and finally Rome in 2017. Presences abroad in large Department Stores, such as Bergdorf Goodman in New York or Le Bon Marché in Paris.
Many are the illustrious people he has tied around their necks: actors of yesterday and today, national and international politicians, Italian and American Presidents.
