On affection’s edge: Ariadne and the female universe of the passion of love

We are pleased to present a preview of the concert that the Italian Cultural Institute will host in the fall featuring Italian mezzo-soprano Arianna Lanci.

A mythological and literary figure, to which many poetic, musical and iconographic works have been linked since ancient times, Arianna represents in the Baroque vocal repertoire the symbol of the woman who epitomizes an extreme, excessive existential and emotional condition.

As an authentic icon of the lament, Arianna firsthand speaks to us of the depth of the female universe with all the strength and relevance of which perhaps only the myths are capable, becoming, within the scope of this program, the starting point and at the same time the point of arrival, of an exploration of some of the most refined and intense pages of baroque music between the early seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, in a dual cultural context, Italian and French.

Music by J.B. Barrière, A. Bembo, F. Geminiani, E.C.J. de La Guerre, C. Monteverdi, A. Scarlatti, B. Strozzi
