TRIBUTE TO VERDI

Carlo Colla & Sons Marionette Company’s

ICI intends to pay homage to the operatic genius of Giuseppe Verdi on the bicentennial of his birth hosting a viewing of excerpted videos of some of Verdi’s operas from the Colla Company’s repertory, along with a live marionette performance to the accompaniment of selected arias. The Colla family began its professional puppeteering activity after 1815. The Carlo Colla & Sons Marionette Company was created in 1861 following the death of the family’s first puppeteer. Throughout its 150-year existence, the Company has assembled a repertoire shaped by many cultural and artistic influences, particularly Giuseppe Verdi’s operas, which are easily adaptable to the populist themes of the marionette language. Today, the Carlo Colla & Sons Marionette Company performs operas by Verdi all over the world, including Aida, Il Trovatore, Nabucco, La battaglia di Legnano, and Attila, performances that have not only become synonymous with the Company’s name, but also with Italian theatre.
