In Scena : “My Hero” by Giuliana Musso

For the third year of partnership between In Scena and Italian and American Playwrights Project we present the first English reading of one of the four plays selected for the second edition of the Project: “My Hero” by Giuliana Musso, translated by Patricia Gaborik.

Mio Eroe (My Hero) consists of a series of three monologues. The protagonists of the monologues are three mothers of Italian soldiers who took part in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan during 2008-2010. Two of these mothers lost their son in battle. The three women differ from each other both for origins, culture and personality, but they have in common the experience of having been the mother of a soldier. The mother’s conversation interlaces memories of their sons childhood, stories of tragic events, and considerations on their sons’ choices. Characters are inspired by real-life events.

Giuliana Musso (Playwright) is an actress and playwright. Born in Vicenza in 1970, she currently lives in Udine. Since 2001 she has been writing and producing narrative and investigative works; her work is characterized by a blend of oral recollection, comedy and lyricism.
