Bebo Ferra - Paolino Dalla Porta Duo

Bebo Ferra: acoustic and classical guitar; Paolino Dalla Porta: acoustic bass.

Bebo Ferra and Paolino Dalla Porta have been collaborating since 1995 in various groups and recording projects. The duo was born in 1997 following an invitation by the "Centro Meridionale di Cultura italiana" for a festival of acoustic duos and original music, in Bologna, Italy. A poetic dimension, energy, color, and creativity, are some of the main coordinates from which the original compositions of P. Dalla Porta and B. Ferra are born, purposely written for such a project.

Jazz is the common ground, meant as “thought” and language in an endless transformation and in search of a new synthesis between the European and Mediterranean roots. The two musicians, supported by a refined technique, are able to transform the chamber music dimension of the acoustic duo in an elaborated proposal, with great expressiveness and energy.

The poetic themes, the interplay and the interchange of roles between the two instruments, constantly supported by creative and melodic tension, in addition to a natural rhythmic empathy, common base of the two musicians, give rise to a dynamic music, rich in nuances and, at the same time, of great impact for the audience.

Bebo Ferra, born in Cagliari, is perhaps the best known Italian jazz guitarist. He began studying the guitar at the age of nine directing most of his research in the context of Jazz music. He has collaborated with many prominent members of the Italian and international Jazz scene.  He has been nominated Best Italian guitar Player in 2011 by the magazine InSound. He won the first prize at the Sulmona Jazz festival for the soundtrack for the film "Tutto bene" by Daniele Maggioni and the first prize for best soundtrack at the Baff film festival for the movie "my tomorrow" by Marina Spada. He  teaches at the Como Music Conservatory and the summer workshop in Nuoro Jazz.

Paolino Dalla Porta - Bass player, composer, studies classical guitar and contemporary composition. Paolino Dalla Porta is considered one of the most interesting and eclectic bassists of the Italian and European Jazz scene. His eclectic style combines various musical languages while merging improvised and creative music, Mediterranean and ethnic traditions and Jazz. Since 1978 he has been playing and recording with many prestigious European and American musicians. He has been nominated Best Italian Bass Player in 2008 by the magazine InSound, and also the Top Jazz 2009 by the Italian magazine Musica Jazz. He is member of the legendary band “Oregon” leaded by Ralph Towner, and has composed several movies’ sound tracks.
