Unrelenting Video Installation

Unrelenting Video Installation

Unrelenting Video Installation  - will be visible to the public at 5pm on the facade of the Consulate General of Italy, at the southwest corner of 69th Street and Park Avenue.

The New York City Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, the Consulate General of Italy in New York and the Cold Spring-based museum Magazzino Italian Art will present a unique screening of Francesco Simeti’s video work Unrelenting (2020). The project is part of a series of initiatives by the Italian cultural diplomacy in the US aiming at highlighting  Italian creativity with a special focus on the environment. In the city of New York, this commitment is displayed through the promotion of public art as a mean to raise awareness on sustainability, and will be an opportunity to enhance Italy’s long-established civic partnership with the City.

Born in Palermo, Sicily and based in Brooklyn, Simeti is a young artist known for his installations exploring connections between human beings and the natural world. He created Unrelenting as part of Homemade, Magazzino Italian Art’s digital initiative that invited eight New York-based Italian artists to create and share new works of art from their homes during New York State’s  lockdown. Simeti created a series of animations that show how nature emerged as humans retreated indoors during the pandemic.
