Gaetano Filangieri and Benjamin Franklin Symposium

An international symposium dedicated to Gaetano Filangieri, Neapolitan jurist, philosopher, and economic theorist; curated by Vincenzo Pascale (Long Island University) with the participation of scholars and professors connecting from Italy: Amedeo Arena Università Federico II di Napoli, Giuseppe Foscari Università degli studi di Salerno,  Paolo Gravagnuolo President of the Centro studi “Gaetano Filangieri”,  Paolo Jorio Director of the Museo Civico Filangieri di Napoli, Antonio Trampus Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia.

The various speakers offer new interpretations of Filangieri’s work, and illustrate the ability, by the Neapolitan thinker, of dialoguing with the major exponents of the European Enlightenment.

Also, in light of the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and the United States of America, the symposium examines his friendship with Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, who himself sent Filangieri a copy of the Constitution.
