The exhibition is dedicated to the stories of the rescue of 300 Jews in Assisi,

and also promotes the city of Assisi thanks to a video

dedicated to the beauties of the city and the Franciscan message.

 

The Museum of Memory, conceived and curated by the journalist Marina Rosati and built by the Opera Casa Papa Giovanni, foundation of the Diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino, tells the story of the 300 Jews saved thanks to the spirit of Franciscan hospitality in Assisi.

Through the descriptions in the panels on view it will be possible to learn about the work of salvation carried out -immediately after September, 8 1943- by the church of Assisi and by many citizens. It is explained the work of Don Aldo Brunacci, former founder of the Opera Casa Giovanni who over the years has kept this memory alive, of the then bishop Monsignor Giuseppe Placido Nicolini who pulled the strings of the clandestine organization, of Father Rufino Niccacci, friar minor, guardian father of the convent of San Damiano, of the religious orders, of the conventual friar Father Michele Todde, and all the others who did their utmost to save the lives of many people, otherwise destined for deportation.

An important space is also dedicated to Luigi and Trento Brizi, the Assisi printers who printed the false documents for the Jews. The exhibition, in two languages ​​(Italian-English) includes also video-interviews with some of the protagonists, collected before their demise, who directly tell what they did to save the Jews, as well as insights on the historical period. Each panel has the QR Code so as to make it easier to read the many stories, situations, difficulties and even joys that the Jews and the city of Assisi experienced in that dramatic historical period.
