Alba de Céspedes and the story of women’s emancipation.
Irene Finiguerra and Annalisa Menin, in collaboration with the Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori Foundation, introduce a dialogue between Olga Campofreda and Isabella Livorni centered on women’s freedom and Alba de Céspedes. Moderator Claudio Pagliara.
During the event, the audience will be taken on a journey that intertwines archives, literature, and cultural history, showing how the Italian language was, for Alba de Céspedes, a tool of freedom, awareness, and social transformation.
From her literary work to the pages of the magazine «Epoca» (1952–1960), Alba de Céspedes’s writing was one of the most important tools for reflecting on female identity and emancipation in Italian postwar. Olga Campofreda‘s research in the Mondadori Foundation Archive reconstructed a fundamental period in Italian journalism and literature, and brought to light a voice that anticipated themes still extraordinarily relevant today.
This is also an opportunity to present the Nuove Generazioni Across the Ocean Contest, promoted by Contemporanea in collaboration with New York University, aimed at students of the Department of Italian Studies, with the goal to build a dialogue between the heritage of Italian literature and the perspective of new generations.
