“Giorgio Ambrosoli and the Italian culture of the Rule of Law.

Civil society’s fight against organized crime and corruption”.

This event at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York focuses on Giorgio Ambrosoli and his human and professional story,  examining also the historical context, with a series of excerpts from: Corrado Stajano, “Un eroe borghese” (1991), Umberto Ambrosoli, “Qualunque cosa succeda” (2009), Francesca Ambrosoli, “Dolore, orgoglio, memoria” (2022), Marcello Ravveduto, “Libero Grassi, storia di un’eresia borghese”, and “Il sindaco gentile”, by the same author, (1995), as well as scenes taken from the film “Un eroe borghese” by Michele Placido (1995), from 2014 Rai TV series “Qualunque cosa succeda” by Alberto Negrin, from the documentary/theatrical piece: “The price of Courage”(2019), and from the film “Renata Fonte. A woman against everyone” directed by Fabio Mollo, (2018).

With the support of photographs by Niccolò Biddau and Elena Galimberti, as well as tables from the graphic novel “La scelta” by Gianluca Buttolo (2015). And also, will be shown some clips of testimonies from the evenings of the Giorgio Ambrosoli Prize, in particular those of Marshal Silvio Novembre and Mario Sarcinelli, former deputy director of the Bank of Italy.

Giorgio Ambrosoli was murdered on July 11 1979 in Milan by a hitman hired by the bankrupt banker Michele Sindona as part of an international criminal financial affair with significant historical-legislative impacts, in particular on the New York-Milan high profile financial axis. The figure of Giorgio Ambrosoli ideally dialogues with three Italians who are also very well-known at an international level: the magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Giuseppe Borsellino and General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, emblems and witnesses of the extraordinary effort made by the Italian police forces to combat criminal groups.
