GIUSY VERSACE. Giusy was born in Reggio Calabria on May 20, 1977 where she resided until, at the age of twenty, life and work brought her first to London and then to Milan. On August 22 2005, during a business trip, Giusy had a terrible car accident, in which she lost both her legs. An event that caused to put everything back into play but that for her has never meant a surrender.

In 2010 she started running with carbon prostheses and became the first Italian athlete in history to run with bilateral amputation. In 7 years she collected 11 Italian titles and set several national records on the 60, 100, 200 and 400 meters that still bear her name today. Giusy joined the sport group of the Blue Flames (Fiamme Azzurre) and in 2016 she won her first international medals (European Championships: Silver on 200m and Bronze on 400m). In the same year she reaches her greatest goal of participating in the Paralympics in Rio, entering the final in the 200m race.

In 2013 she wrote her autobiography With your head and heart you go everywhere, a book that in addition to becoming a best seller (Oscar Mondadori edition), inspired the director Edoardo Sylos Labini who, in 2017, transformed it into a theatrical performance in prose, music and dance.

Since 2014 she has been ambassador of Save the Dream an international campaign to promote sport integrity among young people, together with other internationally renowned sportsmen including her friend Alex Del Piero. In the same year Giusy won the 10th edition of Dancing with the stars on  Rai 1, and, in 2015 made her debut on TV as a presenter with: Alive – La Forza della Vita on Rete 4 and La Domenica Sportiva on Rai 2, for the 2015-2016 season. Also in 2015, Giusy is the Eagle at the Carnival of Venice, a symbol of strength and courage, the first Paralympic athlete to do so.

In 2011 she founded the Disabili No Limits Onlus Foundation which provides artificial limbs and customized prostheses to children and adolescents.

In the political elections of 4 March 2018 she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies with Forza Italia and was entrusted with the National Department for Equal Opportunities and Disabilities; she works in the XII Commission (Social Affairs) and in the Parliamentary Commission for children and adolescents. From 29 May 2021 Giusy also leads the National Sports Department of her party.
